Abstract
The Purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of drug offenders` dual-dependence and dual-diagnosis in order to suggest therapeutic strategies. The study results showed that out of the 255 study subjects, 47.8% were drug addict, 52.2% were diagnosed with alcohol dependence, 29.0% were diagnosed with dual-dependence, and 29.3% were dual-diagnosis. 49.2% of drug addicts, 40.6%of alcohol dependence, and 55.4% of dual-dependence were classified as a risk group of dual-diagnosis. Also people in dual-diagnosis suffered from anxiety, obsessive compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, paranoid ideation, and psychotics. The results showed that drug addicts are eight times more likely to be in the risk group compared to those that are not classified as addicts. And for those diagnosed with alcohol dependence and dual-dependence, the chance of being in the risk group is three and sixteen times higher respectively. Thus, in order for a correctional treatment to work when a Therapeutic Community Center in prison is built, this paper suggests that it is essential to adopt a multidisciplinary approach, focus more on dual-dependence and dual-diagnosis, and develop a therapeutic strategy for Korean drug offenders.
